THE UNSCHOOL OF DISRUPTIVE DESIGN

Leyla founded the UnSchool of Disruptive Design in September 2014 in New York City as an experimental knowledge lab for creative rebels and change makers. In 2015 the first emerging leaders fellowship program was held in NYC and in 2019 the 10th instalment was hosted in Kuching, Malaysia.

The fellowships program pops up all over the world, engaging with the social and environmental change initiatives in the selected city, supporting 20 local and international people wanting to activate their agency to have a positive impact on the world. It’s a hyper immersive experience that undoes the damage that mainstream education often inflicts on creative minds.

Fellowships have been held in New York, Mexico City, Melbourne, Sao Paulo, Christchurch, Berlin, San Francisco, Mumbai, Cape Town and Kuching.

The UnSchool has thousands of alumni in over 45 countries and expanded to offer an online school along with shorter intensive workshops hosted at the CO Project Farm. UnSchool content focuses on 3 pillars of systems, sustainability and design, in 2018 a partnership with UN Environment was established. In 2019 a certification system was launched to provide emerging leaders the opportunity to further their career as creative change-makers.
